Idolmaster 2 Let’s Play Status

Posted from Morristown, New Jersey, United States.

First part of the video completed, but nowhere to upload it.

Done the first part of the recording today… It will come in two parts, but don’t expect much commentary on the Lessons/Promotions since my Japanese still needs work.

So far, the song list is this:

  • Ready
  • Relations

The rest will be…

  • 七彩ボタン
  • Do-Dai
  • Change!!!! (Yes, it’s quite obvious what I’m getting at)…

Still figuring out a place to upload it (I don’t want to upload it on Youtube, they might take it down despite being fair use for review purposes), but I’m releasing one part each week. For now, I’ll be recording up to Week 28 so I can catch up with the episodes (the recordings can get very long with the promotions and stuff). The second half will be recorded after Spring Semester is over and hopefully, I can obtain an HD PVR afterwards. This should give me some leeway in obtaining the Japanese PSN cards and an HD PVR for better production quality.

Japanese Self-Study Progress Page Now Open for Business

If you haven’t known, I started to formally learn (as in self-studing the language) the Japanese Language in effort to become bilingual for job opportunities and that I can understand what they are saying. The progress page is here . It will show my overall progress. It uses some elements of HTML5, so make sure you have a well supported browser like Chrome, Firefox, Opera and Webkit Nightlies(Safari).

Since I have finally mastered Hiragana (ひらがな), I will now include the Japanese text in that format along with the romanized Japanese terms in future posts for those who can’t read it. The only exceptions to this rule is show titles & character names. Furthermore, this rule will only apply to my personal and Anime blog. If I do any guest reviews (music reviews for Anime Instrumentality), it will not follow this rule. This will allow me to practice using these characters so I won’t forget how to read/use them.

Power Outage Notice (Update: Back on!)

Posted from Cedar Grove, New Jersey, United States.

As of 2:00 AM morning, the power went out on my house. For now, all blog posts will be delayed until power is restored. Also, Internet access will be limited too.

Update: After 18 hours without power, it was finally restored at 8:00 PM. Nevertheless, it was pretty fun as I spent time mostly with my family. Besides that, Hurricane Irene didn’t do much damage except flooded the basement and took of a few branches off the trees. Gallery of the aftermath is below the post.

In addition, posts will publish as normal.

Now on Google +

Posted from Cedar Grove, New Jersey, United States.

With the help of RyanA, I was able to get into Google Plus, which is a new social networking site that everyone is talking about. Sadly though, they closed the invitations last night, so I won’t be able to invite anyone. Feel free to ask me over Twitter if they open up the invites if you want in.

Since I am on Google + and you are one of the lucky people who got in, you can add me to your circle and also have a video chat. Just head to my profile page and add me to one of your circles. In turn, I will add you to the Aniblogospher and/or Friends circle so you can see my updates. :)

New Theme~

Posted from Cedar Grove, New Jersey, United States.

I have noticed that Mandingo is displaying most of the content incorrectly and creating some glitches, so I decided to throw the theme out and make a new one for Shiori’s Diary. After hours of readding the Woo-tumblog features to the theme and messing around with the CSS and HTML, I have finally made a theme that looks noticeably better than the previous.

The new theme is a child theme of Twenty Eleven, a theme included in the Wordpress 3.2 default installation. The benefit of this theme over the old one is custom menus support, HTML5 and a better design. Sadly, they have removed the displaying of the sidebars in single posts and pages, so I had to change the CSS and PHP to add them back.

If you notice any glitches or have any suggestions on improving the new theme, just make a comment below. The design is not final since I have to make a few more tweaks and make a new banner, so it’s subject to change.

Update: Fixed the custom fonts issue in Firefox. Apparently, it does not allow loading of custom fonts from different domains.

Regarding Formspring

Recently, a person who I will not name has asked me an excess of 20+ questions over the past few hours. I don’t mind people asking questions to me over Formspring, but please be considerate. Do not flood my inbox with nonsense or questions that are not even question. Only ask the maximum of 5 questions and then make more if all of them are answered. This will give me less hard aches and a more pleasant experience.

New Home for Shiori’s Diary

I have transitioned the WordPress Multisite links to subdomain install. Therefore, http://chikorita157.com/sideblog will redirect to the new site, http://sideblog.chikorita157.com. This decision was made to make the urls cleaner and bit more distinct…

Kronblr will be located at http://kronblr.chikorita157.com. This will make installations and updates a bit easier without hacking the scripts.

Note that even though we are on a new host, this sideblog, projects blog and Melative Library will always remain ad-free.

Shopping for new Hosting

During the past two months, traffic to my Anime Blog grew substantially (Last month 7300 visitors. Currently at 6300+ visitors and raising). Sadly, pages seemed to load a bit slower (12+ seconds). If this keeps up into 2011 when I start the Winter 2011 season and finish my backlog, things can get a bit worse.

This is why I am planning to start paying for my hosting since I have some money. Since I will be watching Anime for indefinitely, I will continue to blog. I would rather pay for 2 years as a lump sum so I don’t have to worry about having monthly charges. I am thinking about WPWebHost Freedom Plan since there servers are optimized for WordPress and their prices seemed reasonable. I don’t really need unlimited disk space and bandwidth since I am only using about 2GB of space currently and all pages are cached on WordPress. After the coupon I found (35%), it comes out to be 78 dollars.

When I move to paid hosting, I would need to put ads up to sustain myself since I don’t have a job. I might try to get a summer job to help with the hosting of the blog, but yeah… Good hosting is not cheap and I refuse to use WordPress.com since it’s too limited since I can’t use my WPTouch Pro plugin and custom themes.

If you have other cheap hosting solutions that you want to offer me, just comment here or contact me over Twitter/Melative.

Secret Santa Suggestions

Here is the suggestions I have received from Reverse Thieves’ AniBlogger Secret Santa Event. From the list of three selections, I will decide one to watch and review… but the ones I pick will be a secret.

Info about these shows are shown below, provided by the Melative Item Plugin.

1
[melative_lime_meta]anime/Future Boy Conan[/melative_lime_meta]
2
[melative_lime_meta]anime/Kino no tabi[/melative_lime_meta]
3
[melative_lime_meta]anime/Haibane Renmei[/melative_lime_meta]

Thats it for now… I will pick one title to watch, marathon it during Thanksgiving Break and write a review that will publish on December 24, 2010.

Shiori’s Dairy now uses Droid Sans. You…

Shiori’s Dairy now uses Droid Sans. You can only see this font if you use Mozilla Firefox 3.5+, Safari 3.0+, Chrome or Opera 10.5+. Internet Explorer will not show the font since it does not support the @font-face embedding. In addition, web-fonts do not work on mobile devices (such as the iPhone),, so Helvetica Neue will be used instead.
