Pokemon Nicknames and Where they Came From…

Posted from Caldwell, New Jersey, United States.

Have you always wondered where I got the nicknames from other Anime series? The answer finally lies in this spreadsheet, where I list the nicknames, full name of the characters it’s based off, the Anime, Pokemon Species name, where it’s located now, Original Trainer and Potential (IV Total). I will be updating this at least once a month as I usually breed and train new Pokemon to the pool used for Battle Frontier/Battle Subway/Online Battles.

Note that Pokemon Platinum and Diamond Pokemon are not included in the list since I only really used these games for breeding and stuff. HeartGold and White are the main games used for battling.

Lamest 50th Battle Hall Battle Ever – Pokemon Heart Gold

I have saved this video on my VS Recorder for some time because it was just that hilarious. I managed to get to my 50th streak with Kyou (Shiny Dragonite). Argenta brings out a Leafeon that only does Quick Attack! I really suspected something a bit more stronger than that, but oh well… it was a very easy win!

Kyou’s Moveset:
Kyou (Dragonite)
Female Level 71 – Adamant Nature
- ExtremeSpeed
- Aqua Tail
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage

Pokémon Dream World – Day 2

Now, it’s Cordelia’s (Lilligant) turn to sleep and have fun… A few failures, but mostly successful.

Pokémon Dream World – Day 1

First time in the Dream World after Pokémon Global Link is open… Used Kyubey the Espeon as the Pokémon to sleep.
I did two mini games, but they are full of fail. Maybe I’ll get it right next time.

If you wish to friend me over Dream World, the PGL screen name is chikorita157.

Notes: The Dream World functions unfortunately requires the ever so abominable Adobe Flash. Therefore, you won’t be able to play it on the iPad since it doesn’t have Flash…

Rant of the Week: Smogon’s Tiers are flawed

I have to admit, Smogon is the most informative website for competitive Pokémon battling. It’s a known fact that I use most of their suggested move sets and EV spreads on my Pokémon for use on Wifi battles, Battle Frontier and Battle Tower. However, there are two things that bother me about Smogon. They are banning Pokémon like Salamence to Ubers and the NU tier is flawed since it contain Pokémon that could destroy many of the very weak Pokémon like Plusle.

While I agree that Garchomp should be banned since it’s relatively difficult to counter/check without having a Weavile or bulky waters with Ice Beam. On the other hand, Salamence while strong is pretty fragile. Stuff like Stealth Rock, Ice Shard, Stone Edge, Ice Beam can OHKO or 2HKO Salamence easily. Most bulky waters like Vaporeon, Suicune, Milotic and sweepers like Weavile, Starmie could basically take Salamence out. To me, banning Pokémon with the exception of Garchomp to Ubers is not a solution, but a big cop out.  If you going to do it that way, you may as well ban Tryanitar, Dragonite, Scizor, etc. because they are too powerful and everyone’s using it.

This also brings up another point, battle emulators. With emulators, planning a good team takes knowledge, but it’s not difficult compared to breeding and training a mountain load of Pokémon. When you battle in game, the possibility of having perfect IVs doesn’t happen very often. Unless you spend the time breeding for IVs/moves, training for EVs and all that stuff, it’s going to be inconsistent. This is the main reason why I don’t battle with simulators, since they take the fun away. Doing battles over Nintendo DS or Pokémon Battle Revolution is the only genuine way to enjoy battles to the fullest.

Lastly, I feel that Smogon’s tiers for Generation IV are flawed since it’s not based on merit, but on popularity. In the past, tier lists were based on merits that depended on the Pokémon’s base stats, move pool, ability and typing. Nowadays, these lists are generated through the use of simulators like Shoddy Battle and Pokémon Online. The disadvantage of this method is that some of the good Pokémon will end up in the undesirable NU, the tier that screams horrible, novelty, and unwanted. As a result, you have some Pokémon like Espeon1 that ends up NU, which makes the whole tier broken. Instead of shoving all the formerly powerful Pokémon in NU, UU should have two subsections. Upper UU for the Pokémon that is used frequently and Lower UU for the Pokémon that aren’t used that frequently, but too powerful. Then, reserve the NU for extremely flawed, weak and novelty Pokémon like Luvdisc, Castform and Plusle.

Pokemon White – First Wifi Battle and Wifi Restrictions

If everyone noticed, I had a battle with Yumeka about an hour ago and we have noticed some limitations… They are:

  • You get to see the opponent’s team like you do in Pokemon Battle Revolution.
  • “No Restrictions” allows you to pick six Pokemon, but they keep the same levels. Considering that level grinding with the new Experience System is very slow for high leveled Pokemon, it will be difficult to have all the Pokemon on the same level.
  • Flat Battle has many restrictions. Legendaries are prohibited, Species Clause, Sleep Clause, and Item Clause. The number of Pokemon you can have at one time is 3 (4 for Double and Rotation Battles. All 6 in Triple Battles.).

So pretty much Gamefreak has nerfed online battling in a way that there is hardly any freedom. If only they added custom rules from Pokemon Battle Revolution, this would have been all right since you can change these restrictions… Until that comes in a form of Pokemon Battle Revolution 2 or Pokemon Grey, you have to get used to this or do the battles on the older games instead.

As for the battles after the epic fail “No Restrictions” were pretty much even. I kind of messed up with the first one since Madoka (Vaporeon) was underleveled… but managed to win the second one and beating Umbreon with Rakka (Altaria). Yes, we know Altaria is not the strongest dragon Pokemon out there, but it’s cute and bulky. Once I get a Life Orb, it should balance out and be able to OHKO/2HKO Pokemon after 1-2 Dragon Dance.

Also, if anyone wants to battle me through Pokemon White or my older games, just ask me over Twitter so we can arrange a time and exchange friend codes.

Pokemon and Anime Characters

I saw this particular post comparing various Anime character’s personalities to different Pokemon made by Yumeka. I had to reply to it since I have the obsession of naming Pokemon with Anime character’s names. Here is my take on it:

If you haven’t noticed in our battle we had a few months back, I usually name my Pokemon by favorite Anime characters, although sometimes it does not match the species I choose…

For instance, I name my Shiny Dragonite Kyou (Kyou Fujibayshi, Clannad) since she is a spunky girl and a tsundere, my Espeon as Kotomi (Kotomi Ichinose, Clannad) not only because it matches her hair color, but she is a genius and I assume Psychic pokemon are intelligent.

There are some that are named randomly, such as my Milotic, Nagisa (Nagisa Furukawa, Clannad) or my Vaporeon, Nayuki (Nayuki Minase, Kanon, which is pretty ironic since Vaporeon isn’t that fast)… This reminds me, I haven’t played Pokemon ever since I came back from vacation. :o

Thats right… I name my characters from Key, mostly. Also, I do have some characters that are not named from Key… This includes:
Kureha (Sora no Woto) – Staraptor
Misaki (Kaichou wa Maidsama) – Milotic

Thats about it… for now… Maybe I should name other Pokemon from different Anime besides from Key… I wonder what Pokemon Kaoru would be… hehehe….

So… Pokemon Heart Gold Friend Code

One of the things I have neglected to do. Yes, there is a fair amount of bloggers who still play Pokemon on their free time besides watching Anime and such, and I do too when I have absolutely nothing to do and breed/level grind Pokemon use for online battle and Battle Frontier.

The friend code is 0818-6384-1156. To use this, you must contact me on XMPP, Twitter, Melative… Anything with your friend code so I can make arrangements. Since I have a WPA protected wireless network, I first have to turn the security off the guest network so I can battle you or do anything of that sort. Beware that when you battle, I do take time to train the Pokemon with the right stats and all that good stuff, so its a heads up so complainers won’t say I hacked my Pokemon, since I don’t use any such device.

Rules for battling is Level 100 Single, No Ubers (listed here), Sleep and Evasion Cause (No Double Team, etc). Also, Hacked Pokemon (Gameshark or Pokesav) is strictly prohibited. If you win the battle, you won’t get any prize of some sort and these videos will be recorded with the in game battle recorder and I will list these battle videos on a separate page.

Anyways, Have Fun!

Shiny Dragonite… by luck…

Look what I have:

Yep, I reseted the game until I got this by luck… and it also has the right nature too and pretty good IVs as seen below:
wpid-Safari.upFmd8ga6PCG.jpg
Nearly perfect IVs, except HP and Special Defense… Not too bad.

wpid-IMG_0487.ZNsTwrFzTnGR.jpg
Trying to level up to 55 so it can evolve into Dragonite… It takes alot longer to level up in HG/SS since the lack of a VS. Seeker and finally…
wpid-IMG_0488.acYWPvIqyAPn.jpg
Took awhile, but it’s worth it. Still need to level up so I can get Outrage since Dragon Rush has poor Accuracy.
