Jpop or KPop and why? What are your favorite singers?

Answer

It’s obvious that I listen to a lot of Japanese pop music besides some of the good/older american pop and other genres since I have been listening it since 2004. While I haven’t listened to any Korean pop, I tend to not like where they are heading since their songs have become too manufactured with the overuse of Autotune over pure talent. Considering that K-pop is dominated by idol groups more so than J-pop, it definitely generated a lot of harsh criticism. Then again, J-pop is not guilty of it, but it’s not as predominant as idol groups like the AKB48 don’t dominate the Oricon charts and you actually see individual singers. Also, they have a pretty active indie scene.(See THOUGHTS ON THE EAST ASIAN “IDOL CULTURE” PART 1 from Anime Instrumentality and you probably know what I’m talking about)

There is one good thing about JPop over K-pop… at least their music styles are more diverse than having thousands of redundant bubblegum pop that you probably get tired of.

As for my favorite singers, I like Kalafina, Lia, Maaya Sakamoto, and Nana Mizuki to name a few… There’s more, but I don’t want to overwhelm this answer with a big list of artists since its subject to change)

Pick my second song to Karaoke in the next SCCSAV Karaoke session!

I’m probably doing a good song as the first song I sing… but how about the second one? I may as well make a fool of myself with some of the really catchy, moe or songs that are sing badly by the original singer. So, I am asking everyone to pick a song off the list on which would sound amusing. I will make a clean recording while I sing it over Skype.

Just proves that Girls Dead Monster can never meet the popularity of HTT… because they suck! Even My Soul, Your Beats/Brave Song beaten all the Girls Dead Monster’s singles alone… :/

Air OST Short Impressions

I have listened to the whole Air Original Soundtrack and yes, the music is amazing… A few tracks caught my attention besides Tori no Uta…

  • Natsukage (Summer Lights) – We know there is a lyric version made by Jun Maeda and sung by Lia, but the original song sound just as amazing, or even better without lyrics… Don’ get me wrong, the one with the lyrics sounds good too.
  • Niji (Rainbows) – It’s a very upbeat and a nice listen… Kinda reminds me of the bubbles Michiru were trying to blow… lol.
  • Hanemizu (Splashing Water)- This song obviously have a summer feel to it and you wish you were at a pool or water park… hehe…

Air Orginal Soundtrack also features some emotional tracks like with Kanon, which had Mukai, Tōdo Kōgen and Kaze o Matta Hi. Air has Sōsei and Futari… although I could be missing some of them.

Lastly, Hane is a music box version of Tori no Uta… similar fashion to Angel Beats, My Heart.

Overall, the Air soundtrack like the Kanon and Angel Beats! is just as good. What makes this soundtrack better than the two is the many memorable tracks it has and also how well it captured the summer theme that the whole VN is going at. So, if you can get a hand on this, give it a listen.

Also, I will probably have a full editorial focusing on select Key songs on my Anime Blog in a few weeks.

My reasoning on why I’m criticizing Girl’s Dead Monster

There have been a lot of disagreement around my harsh criticism of Girl’s Dead Monster, a frictional band in Angel Beats and the singers, whatherface and LiSA. I am a critic, I have to point out what is good and what its not. This is what a critic does. You don’t have to agree with all my points because everyone have different opinions and tastes in music. This is not an attack on Angel Beats because I enjoy the show and like the story, I just don’t like the way the insert songs are heading.

Even Jun Maeda want to have the high school band feel, it does not work for me. I think he should took more time auditioning and pick out better talent that is not known that can actually sing. If Houkago Tea Time (also a high school band) can pull of a clean performance, why can’t Girl’s Dead Monster? I expect them to be just as good because if they sounded like they are novices, I wouldn’t think they would get many fans. Good talent is what make music sound good, and if you can’t sing, that isn’t good talent. It’s just like watching the first few episodes of American Idol. People think they have good singing talent but when they perform in front of the judge, most of the time, they will get a slap in the face because they sing horribly and have no talent. Same case here… LiSA and whatherface performance was less than impressive and it ruined my overall enjoyment. This is why all these songs are taken off my playlist because I can’t stand anymore of their talentless singing. If they audition to get a recording contract, I’m pretty sure they will get rejected. They got it lucky since they probably got pulled in, but in the real world, I don’t think they will survive with talent like that… It’s reality. Most companies that involve with singing will not hire people who lack talent, so you have to know that.

I’m writing this to respond to people who don’t agree with me. LiSA and marina aren’t horrible, but they just don’t fit the roles they are in by the talent they shown.

Kalafina… Good Stuff

If you don’t know what Kalafina is, well that link will tell you what it is…

However, this is not why I’m writing this post. Their most recent single, Hikari no Senritsu came out last month I think is one of my favorite songs… why? Well, it’s because of traditional sounding theme on this song, which pretty much fits with the theme of Sora no Woto, so far being one of the best 2010 Winter Anime so far.

They are also well known for their songs from the anime Kara no Kyoukai and releasing a new album this month titled “Red Moon.” So, if you haven’t heard of their songs yet, I suggest take a listen at it… you might be amazed.
