Thoughts on Aniblog Tourney II Matchings

Posted from Morristown, New Jersey, United States.

The second AniBlog Tourney is finally here to bring the greatest e-drama and competitive spirit to the Aniblogosphere. Compared to the last one, there are now 128 participants and separated into four sections. Since the match ups are here, I may as well give a brief thoughts about my potential opponents.

Beginning Rounds
Draggle’s Anime Blog – It’s a fairly popular episodic blog which I’m familiar with, but don’t subscribe to. I feel confident that I can win this round based on the blog’s overall content consisting mostly of episodic and review posts. However, I shouldn’t get ahead myself until the tournament starts.

Anime/Otaku – It’s a fairly old Anime blog focusing primarily on editorial content and analysis. Given that I win the first round, this one might become a challenge.

Semifinals

Anime Princess – Our last competitor in the last tournament. Given that she succeeds in her matchup and I come up with come kind of miracle, I think competition will get rough and the likely hood of succeeding is kind of low since she makes creative posts and writes good reviews.

Analog Housou – Again, this blog mostly consists of reviews and various editorials… another tough blog to beat.

But yeah, given the predictions, I hope that I don’t end up losing in the first round like I did last time since I worked harder to improve my blog and experiment with new things in the past year. As they say, this is not a popularity contest. You should base your decisions on the content and to a lesser extent, the overall presentation. With that, I wish everyone luck and I will start critiquing blogs when the tournament begins on April 15th.

AniBlog Tourney lost all credibility

It was fun while it lasted, but now it’s a shitty popularity contest. I would have thought the blog that have the best content would win. I guess not in this case…

The O’ Mighty Baka-Raptor Fell…

Don’t worry Baka-Raptor, you’ll get ‘im next time.

Now thats out of the way, I congratulate Sea Slugs for winning.

My only suggestion to Sea Slugs is to get a mobile theme plugin such as WPTouch. As smartphones and mobile devices getting more popular, people want a mobile formatted site, especially with small data caps from cellphone carriers.

Don’t forget to vote for Canne’s Anime Review Blog. This poll will close in two days…

Random Curiosity and the AniBlog Tourney Drama… Is it Justifiable ?

Today, it was revealed that Listless Ink beaten Random Curiosity with a very small lead. However, there was some backlash from some commenters. RandomC had been the controversy throughout the competition. In the second round, the editorial blog, Behind The Nihon Review gets beaten and everyone points fingers at Random Curiosity for being “elitist.” In the third round in the tournament as you know before, Listless Ink beats RandomC with everyone cheering except a few others that are questioning the results and saying the tournament lost credibility.

Since when the Aniblog Tourney was serious business? This is supposed to be fun and now there are some people blowing it up just because their precious and the so called “elitist” Random Curiosity lost?

There is a reason I did not vote for Random Curiosity in both rounds. While I commend them on their dedicated effort to share the latest episodic posts on Anime, they are a bad influence on new bloggers. It leads to redundant episodic blogs that copy their style because its successful and not make their own. Long summary and less on thoughts is a bad sign of a poorly kept episodic blog that gives reader nothing new to read (e.g.: Author’s thoughts, analysis, etc). Blogs need originality and creativity other than slapping a long summary and a few lines of thoughts. This is why I don’t write summaries and keep them at a minimum because most of the people are already going to watch that episode already. There is no need to have it that long…Also, Anime Blogs should be fun to write. If you just doing it for the fame or become elitist, I think you pretty much miss the point. Like with any type of blog, they are meant to share ideas we want to share. Passion towards a hobby or interest is what attracts readers… not dull writing.

Listless Ink won because it has passion and the author seems to enjoy what they are doing. RandomC is like what ANN and news organizations like CNN. They simply don’t have the passion and just doing a service for the people, nothing else.

My suggestion to prevent this drama is that they need to use something like wp-polls plugin and not Poll Daddy and ban all proxies.

So yeah, I will let the dust settle and I will go formal about this issue in my Round 3 followup when all the polls are closed.

Baka-Raptor beats Hanners’…

Who is the worst blog* now (literally)? Anyways, here is a cake for this triumph!

Good luck on the next round!

Notes

* Don’t take it seriously… I was just kidding around since I don’t think Hanner’s is a terrible blog. There are worst blogs out there, but Hanners’ really needs to fix its big banner problem… I mean really. I also voted against you because I liked Baka-Raptor’s humor, even though I don’t agree with him sometimes… but its still funny.

New Blogs Subscribed since AniBlog Tourny Round 2

In total, I subscribed to 7 new blogs on Google Reader. Before Round 2, the number I subscribed to is 7. I switched to Google Reader so I can read my feeds on my iPad without subscribing to the blogs again.

If you want to subscribe what I read, you can download the OPML file which you can use to subscribe to these blogs without manually adding them in. Note that this excludes this blog and Random Curiosity, which I only use as a reference.

Asking for trouble again, aren’t we? This is a tournament, not bash a blog event.

Don’t give up 53rg10! I saw your post and it would be a shame to stop blogging just because you lost some silly Anime Blog Tournament. Surely, I only lost with 6 votes compared to your 21 vote gap, but there is worse things in life than losing a tournament. Giving up on blogging simply proves that you can’t take a loss as everyone can’t win all the time and that is life.

It would be sad if you stop blogging, so please don’t give it up!

Some E-Drama this morning on NotDotQ where ghostlightning accusing Hanners for cheating…

I voted for ghostlighting, but bad sportsmanship is bad sportsmanship. Don’t take the AniBlog Tourney too seriously… It’s just for fun… that is all. It was very close, so be happy for those 300 voters that voted for you… Okay?
