November 13, 2011 – Puella Magi Madoka Magica

Posted from Morristown, New Jersey, United States.

Needed a desktop change after using the background with Minase Iori for nearly two months. This particular one is on Madoka Magica. I choose to pick this one since it looked pretty.

Also, the input menu is added to the menubar. This is because I’m self-studying Japanese and need access to the Japanese input methods. Therefore, I no longer use the US keyboard since its pain the butt to change to Hiragana/Katakana modes when I need to use it.

Japanese Self-Study Progress Page Now Open for Business

If you haven’t known, I started to formally learn (as in self-studing the language) the Japanese Language in effort to become bilingual for job opportunities and that I can understand what they are saying. The progress page is here . It will show my overall progress. It uses some elements of HTML5, so make sure you have a well supported browser like Chrome, Firefox, Opera and Webkit Nightlies(Safari).

Since I have finally mastered Hiragana (ひらがな), I will now include the Japanese text in that format along with the romanized Japanese terms in future posts for those who can’t read it. The only exceptions to this rule is show titles & character names. Furthermore, this rule will only apply to my personal and Anime blog. If I do any guest reviews (music reviews for Anime Instrumentality), it will not follow this rule. This will allow me to practice using these characters so I won’t forget how to read/use them.

Idolmaster Physique Dataset

Histograms of Girl's bust sizes... well yeah.

You asked for it and you get it! I spend around 15 minutes inputing the data. It contains all the values for Age, Weight, Bust, Waist and Hip sizes for each idol in a Minitab 16 worksheet file based on the dataset that Kevo compiled. So, if you have Minitab installed on your computer, feel free to make your histograms, scatterplots and regressions.

Worksheet File (Minitab 16)

Update: Dataset updated with BMI (Body Mass Index) values for each idol.

Brief Thoughts on Steve Jobs passing away…

Posted from New Brunswick, New Jersey, United States.

I just heard that Steve Jobs passed away and it’s sad. Just remembering a few years back when one of our relatives passed away with pancreatic cancer, which is incurable. Either way, he is going to be missed, considering how much he contributed to computing and the mobile industry. I give my condolences to his family.

I Thought This Argument was Over? Apparently Not

Posted from New Brunswick, New Jersey, United States.

Not this shit again… The last time it happened, a blog called the Golden Waste back in February 2010 ranted about people not buying R1 Anime releases and subscribing to Crunchyroll. Well, it got criticized and the author eventually deleted the blog forever.

Fast forward to the end of September and another person decides to complain about it. While I agree with supporting the industry, I didn’t like his arguments as it was playing the blame game. The problem is, not everyone has a lot of money, especially college students, thus they only buy series that they like. If you take it even further, you can get into the debate over the intangibility of Crunchyroll, lack of karaoke and the poor quality subs. Believe me, just look at the recent subs of Ika Musume S2 and it’s horrible. I don’t want to waste $10 for poor quality when I could use that money on the actual DVDs.

Rest assured, I buy Anime on occasion when I want to watch a series I’m really interested in or enjoyed a lot. I’m not loaded either and will not buy every DVD on the moon because you said so. Also, I need to use the money for web hosting and stuff not just DVDs.

Besides from that, let the issue rest already. I’m sick of hearing it!

Theme Overhauled… Again

Posted from New Brunswick, New Jersey, United States.

Transitioning the blog to Genesis after completing the child theme for my main blog. I intend to make it more like a tumblr blog, so I’m making more modifications when I have the time… don’t worry though, it will look better than Twenty Eleven.

(Also tremendously easier since this theme doesn’t take out the bloody sidebar.)

Looking for Editorial Ideas

Posted from Cedar Grove, New Jersey, United States.

Compared to last year, there was only a few issues that caught my attention as seen with the small number I wrote this year such as social impact of Anime Blogging, Anime Viewing Experiences, Japanese Music 1 Year Later, AniBlog Tourney Anniversary along with a few based on a few titles, most namely Madoka and Hourou Musuko. I feel that I am soaking the blog with too much episodics and that I have a desire to write more opinion/analytical pieces. The only problem at this moment is the lack of ideas to start with. Therefore, I need to brainstorm some more ideas. If you have any to share that deals with the Anime Fandom, Personal Experiences or something in a show you want me to explore, just make a comment with the ideas and I’ll put some input of what I think about it. If I decide to use your idea, I will credit you if you wish.

Besides this, I have a few ideas that I’m the working on (hopefully clearer than the most recent editorial I published)…

  • Since I have rewatched Clannad After Story for the second time, I wanted to explore the coming of age aspect as Tomoya and Nagisa change throughout the story.
  • Exploring Iyashikei as it’s a genre that gives a cheery and relaxing feeling.

September 15, 2011 Desktop Screenshot – Minase Iori

Posted from Cedar Grove, New Jersey, United States.

Yeah, my desktop needed a change since I have been using the previous wallpaper since July… It’s not a bad thing since I like Fate, but I needed a change. When I was browsing Konachan, I found this image of Iori Minase, which is pretty. I’m not too big a fan of her since Azusa and Chihaya are my favorites, but still not bad.

Also, Geektool finally returns since they have released a version compatible with Lion. I removed the date and time since they were redundant and kept the weather. Also, added uptime counter to the desktop.

Windows 8 Developer Preview First Impressions

Windows 8 Developer Preview First Impressions

Posted from Cedar Grove, New Jersey, United States.

Installed Windows 8 and I have mixed feelings. Sure there is a lot of nice eye candy, but the metro interface doesn’t translate well to the desktop… especially when there is no option to use the regular start menu in the control panel. I don’t really see this taking off like Windows 7, but it may change.

But yeah, Windows 8 is unimpressive in my opinion.
